Mark Harris in Entertainment Weekly describing Glenn Beck:

Beck is a dishonest, demagogic clown who combines televangelical narcissism with the huckster soul of a ShamWow! pitchman

I’ve always liked Harris’s columns but this one phrase is definitely one of his best.

Bill Clinton on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart talking about how to fix the economy and the possibility that Democrats will lose a majority in the midterm elections:

We [Democrats] didn’t get you out of this hole and we are sick about it and we don’t mind you being mad. But it was a 3 trillion dollar hole. That 800 billion dollar stimulus, only a third of which went to create jobs, was not enough to get us out of this hole. But we’re going in the right direction. Just give us two years. You gave them [Republicans] a lot more than that. Give us two more years, if it’s better you can reelect us, if not you can throw us out. But don’t make a u-turn. Don’t start digging again. When you get in a hole, you first have to stop digging. We stopped digging. Don’t make a u-turn; give us two more years. If we don’t produce any results, send us out.

You may not agree with the politics, but the dude is compelling and smart. And he’s got a point since the recession started during Bush’s presidency and the Republican control of Congress. Here are the 4 interview segments – I think the last is the best and the one the above quote came from.

I live in New York. We have cockroaches. I’m rich. I hire people to come in, they fumigate. I will never, as long as I live in New York City, be totally rid of cockroaches. Now, I could seal my apartment, I could use bug bombs so it was nearly unlivable and reduce the amount of cockroaches. But what kind of life is that for me?

Jon Stewart on The Daily Show with a question for Tony Blair on whether we are going about anti-terrorism the right way.

Seth Meyers on Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update:

In a statement released this week, Pope Benedict says that he has forgiven The Beatles for John Lennon’s claim that they were bigger than Jesus and for their Rock ‘N Roll excesses – the clearest sign yet that the Vatican is working from the bottom of the complaint box.

Oh, and while I’m thinking of good SNL clips, here’s one from a couple shows ago: The Sarah Palin Network.

Leonard talking to Penny about their relationship:

So we’re in two different places emotionally, so what. And maybe I’m a little ahead of you, that’s fine. In fact, it makes sense because let’s face it, I’ve been in this relationship two years longer than you

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev speaking to ABC’s George Stephanopoulos in an interview in St. Petersburg:

The most important thing that distinguishes him from many other people — I won’t name anyone by name — he’s a thinker, he thinks when he speaks. Which is already pretty good.
